The Elgar Enigma series celebrates the 150th anniversary of Elgar's birth, the countryside that so inspired him and his first widely recognised work, Variations on an Original Theme, more commonly known as The Enigma Variations.

Variation II (Allegro) H.D.S.-P. was dedicated to Hew David Steuart-Powell, a pianist with whom Elgar often played chamber music. He would 'warm-up' before a performance with a few finger-loosening exercises - a practice which is referred to in the variation.

The location of this cache is Kempsey, which has no connection to HDSP, but is the location of the house in which Elgar lived from 1923-27 after the death of his wife. During this time he was made Master of the King's Musick. If you walk a bit further into the field you can see the house itself and there is also a plaque on the gates.
Parking can be difficult here but for a brief visit you can get parked in laybys either side of the cache site
