The Elgar Enigma series celebrates the 150th anniversary of Elgar's birth, the countryside that so inspired him and his first widely recognised work, Variations on an Original Theme, more commonly known as The Enigma Variations.

Variation V (Moderato) R.P.A. was dedicated to Richard Penrose Arnold, described as literary, interesting, amusing and an excellent host. A great lover of music which he played (on the pianoforte) in a self-taught manner. He had a characteristic nervous laugh - 'HA-ha-ha, ha-ha-HA-ha-ha! and this can be heard depicted in the woodwind.

This cache is hidden near Storridge to the north of the Malvern Hills and close to Birchwood Lodge, the house which the Elgars rented while living in Malvern Link. Although close to the hills, the house they owned did not have a view over them and Birchwood Lodge was chosen to bring Elgar closer to the area he loved. The house is still there to the south of the cache and is signed although it should be noted it is private; the chimneys have also been shortened. From the cache site you can see a great view to the north and the northern end of the Malvern Hills.

There is parking for a couple of cars by the start of the path do not block the drive.
