Musicalen er skrevet af Claude-Michel Schönberg og Alain Boubil.

Grundlaget for selve historien er Victor Hugos storslåede roman fra 1862. Den havde primiere 17. september 1980 i Paris, men fik først sit gennembrud da den kendte London producer Cameron Mackintosch bearbejdede den og fik den til London i 1985. To år senere havde den premiere på Broadway, hvor opsætningen var nomineret til 12 Tony Awards, hvoraf den vandt otte.

Verdens største musical succes.

Les Mesérables er frem til dags dato verdens største mucical succes, med over 44.000 opførelser, over 53 milioner tilskuere og opførsler i 38 lande. Musicalen lader et politisk og socialt tema udfolde sig, i en helstøbt og gribende forestilling. Det er et historie om skyld, retfærdighed og kærlighed, som fortælles på en dramatisk og bevægende måde. De store følelses historie.

It is an epic story based on the novel from 1862 by Vitor Hugo. The show's music and lyrics were composed by Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil. Their version of the musical premiered in Paris on the 17th of September, 1980 but in first received critical acclaim when the famous London producer Cameron Mackintosh adapted the show and presented it to London audiences in 1985. Two years later, Mackintosh's version of the musical took Broadway by storm, where it won a total of 8 Tony awards out of 12 nominations.
