Geocache Description:

An Historic Place in the country. A short detour off SH1 will take you to a monument.

On this site from December 26th 1908 to January 2nd 1909 Lieut. Col. D. Cossgrove V.D. held the first official Boy Scout Troop camp in New Zealand.

The cache can be found inside the perimeter fence, surrounding the monument dedicated to this event. Please do not climb the fences or trespass on private property looking for the cache.

The cache was replaced with a camo 200ml screwtop container 19 Jan 2008 at the same coordinates but in a new position. Has a log book, pencil pencil sharpener stashnote and swops.

After finding the cache you might like to explore Gladstone park and chilrens play area a short distant further along the road.

When you log your find please feel free to share a Scout (or similar) camping experience with members.
