New Ross, County Wexford Park Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Safetyman: Checked again today and the city still has not replaced the plaque. It looks like they are not maintaining this park, nor the location of the final so it will be archived. It was a good run while it lasted.

Geocache Description:

Easy urban multi-cache

When the state rebuilt I-84 a few years ago, the City of Hartford wanted a roof over part of the highway to tie together the north side with the central business district. This little park was built on top of the resulting “Hartford Tunnel”. When the cache was placed, the park was little used, but has since been changed into a skateboard park, known as "Heaven". There is a ball field going up nearby, so foot traffic in the area will probably also increase.

The park was named after a town of the same name in County Wexford, Ireland which is the sister city of Hartford, CT. In 2007, the town celebrated its’ 800th birthday (and we think we’ve got some old streets).

From the Irish town’s website: “New Ross, Co. Wexford is located on the River Barrow in the South East of Ireland and is home to a population of approx 7,000. New Ross is the ancestral home of U.S. President John F. Kennedy and is also home to the Dunbrody Famine Ship, which led the Parade of Sail in the Tall Ships Race 2005. New Ross is twinned with Hartford Connecticut (USA), Newcastle (Co. Down) and Moncoutant Deux-Sèvres (France).”

At the given coordinates, you’ll find a monument which commemorates an event in the history of the sister city. In what year did something bad happen to the gentlemen? That year is ABCD

The final is located at N 41 46.ADB
W 072 40.(C-4) (B-5) (D-3)

Previous finders have reported problems with the final coordinates. For some reason, I was unable to get a definite lock and the final coordinates are an average of 10 readings on 3 different devices and Google Maps. Use you Geo-sense when searching for the final. Please replace the container where you find it in order to provide the greatest concealment.

There is very limited free parking within about 100 yards, so unless you know the area, you’ll probably need to feed the meters to avoid the wrath of the meter maids. If you try this one at night, you should stay alert to personal safety issues and take the usual urban precautions.

Bring your own pen.
