Suldrup Sø blev ca. 1870 tørlagt af Hedeselskabet. Det indvundne land duede ikke til landbrugsformål, idet resultatet var en bundløs sump på 20 tdr. land, som ikke kunne bruges til noget.
I 1970 opstod i byen planer om at genskabe søen. Efter lange forhandlinger blev planerne realiseret i 1975 ved lokal indsats. Lodsejerne gav området gratis til formålet, og kommunen overtog vedligeholdelsen af området.
Det første år var der svaner der rugede ved søen, og der var også mange andre fugle, men det er desværre gået meget tilbage, nu er der ingen svaner mere og ikke ret mange ænder. Dette skyldes at søen er blevet meget forurenet.
I årene fremover var grøden i vandet alt for voldsomt, så der blev indkøbt nogle Japanske karper til at holde grøden nede og det hjalp med det samme.
Der er sat fårehegn omkring en del af søen, så fårene kan holde vegetationen nede.
Det må vise sig om det er muligt at lave en forureningsbekæmpelse, så der igen kommer svaner og svømmefugle ved søen samt nogle flere fiske arter.
Sammen med de omliggende grønne områder er det et skønt sted at færdes, og det er der mange der gør.

Suldrup Sø (lake) was drained around 1870 by Hedeselskabet (Danish nature maintenance and re-establishment ssociation). The reclaimed land could not be used for agriculture, as the result was a useless bottomless swamp with a size of 27 acres.
In 1970 plans where afoot to recreate the lake. After long negotiations the plans where realized by local effort in 1975. The landowners donated the area for free for the purpose and the municipality took over the maintenance task for the area.
The first year there where swans that brooded at the lake and there where also a lot of other birds.
Unfortunately the bird life has declined a lot as there are no swans any more and nearly no ducks.
This has been caused by pollution in the lake.
In the years to come the hydrophytes where all too intense and some Japanese carps where bought to keep the plant level down. This helped instantly.
There is a sheep fence around part of the lake so the sheep can keep the vegetation down.
It is yet to be shown if it is possible to fight the pollution to get a clean lake once again and bring back the swans and other swimming birds.
It is a lovely place to move about, together with the surrounding green areas. And a lot of people are using the area.
