Beautiful Blueskin Bay (Otago) Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

Zero Gravitas: As there's been no cache to find for some time, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

Give yourselves the options of a nice sunny day, pack the kids or dogs in the car with a picnic and give yourselves an enjoyable couple of hours strolling along a beautiful beach. This is only accesible in low tides.

This is a unique cache as it offers a couple of options, those who either dont want to walk the full distance to complete waypoint 4 to grab the final cache or have judged the tide wrong and cannot reach waypoint 4 the way this cache has been created means you can at least do waypoints 1 and 2 as we have placed a 400ml cache at waypoint 2 that allows swaps and logging etc.

So in short both waypoints 2 and 4 have proper caches allowing swaps!

Parking is available all over this area. So you can park at waypoint one, however if you dont like driving your car on stony rough tracks park in the less stony option by the information sign.

Please be aware penguins nest here so keep dogs under control. Also Hectors Dolphins have been seen in the waters here.

We are not giving too much away here as you need to use this as your training ground for 'Z' (SEE NOTE BELOW FOR ALPHABET CACHE COLLECTORS)

The first is a micro containing just the next waypoint, the second is a container allowing swaps and logging, the third is another micro with just a waypoint within and the final is 750ml Sistema painted camoflage, allowing swaps and logging. Now it is unlikely you will get to the final in anything other than low tide! Even 3rd waypoint is debatable. You may have to climb about 1 metre up for the final. 'Brains' did this no trouble so most cachers will manage this!

With waypoint 1 we found a perfect cache hide around this magnificent huge tree, however there was a lot of broken glass so alas in the interests of safety for those who cache with their kids or with their hands we didnt. So this is NOT around the obvious tree that is worthy of a cache.

All have accuracy of circa 6 metres on the day and were checked a minimum of three times. You will need to use cunning as well as the GPS.

This is a lovely day out trip on a sunny day not just for caching. Busy at times.

ALPHABET TRAIL CACHE COLLECTORS - This is the training ground to prepare you for Z. This is not a part of the Alphabet Trail because it is the foundation stage of the finale.

DONT KNOW ABOUT THE ALPHABET TRAIL? - This has been set up for any one to participate in but is especially created with the Dunedin Cachers in mind for some caching fun over winter, as from start to finish it will take several months to complete. Visitors and non collectors are welcome to visit and log and swap at any of these caches but i would respectfully ask that if you are not completing the whole alphabet that you do not take a letter as they are in short supply! 'A' for a Grand Entrance is the first in the series
