Geocache Description:

This cache is located at the former site of an old time Wisconsin Logging Camp. Access by motor vehicle to within 0.1 miles of the cache is possible during dry weather conditions. During wet weather and winter the cache is accessible via a 1.5 mile hike down an old logging road. Terrain is undulating and somewhat brushy in places depending on the route of approach.

Many years ago logging camps were abundant in northern Wisconsin. This particular camp ceased operation in 1921. The foundations of the former camp buildings are located in the tag alders to the West of the cache. In recent years logging of a different type has occurred - this by the 4 legged logger - the beaver. The former beaver dam was a giant! It was located to the East of the Keystone Road - now the North Stone Rd. The dam consisted of a set of step dams that backed the water up to such an extent that in the Spring of 1989 the road was dead ended at its current location with the northern 5 miles of the Keystone Rd. abandoned to Siskiwit Lake. This cache was chosen by my 12 year old son - the Keystone Coyote. It was chosen based upon its wilderness feel, however it would not be too adventurous for family. Deer, Bear, Coyote, and Wolves frequent this area. Please sign the log book.
