Localização
Esta cache levar-vos-á até à Ponta da Atalaia, uma pequena península com cerca de 250m de comprimento e 100m de largura, junto ao Vale da Telha e à pequena vila piscatória da Arrifana, no concelho de Aljezur. Este local da Costa Vicentina proporciona uma vista privilegiada quer para Norte, quer para Sul, podendo avistar-se, em dias claros e luminosos, desde o Cabo Sardão até ao Cabo de São Vicente.
Num misto de referência histórica e de lenda, aqui emerge um local de culto e de guerra: o ribat al-Rihana (Arrifana), fundado por um sufi (místico) dissente, o árabe Ibn Qasî. Este Ribat - fortaleza de carácter eremita, vinculada à guerra santa, simultaneamente uma instituição conventual destinada ao retiro, à oração e à defesa militar do domínio do Islão - terá sido mandado construir em torno do ano 1130 e abandonado em 1151. Até ao seu abandono, o Ribat sofreu certamente muitas obras de ampliação e reestruturação, como demonstram os resultados de escavações arqueológicas que ali têm vindo a ser feitas nos últimos anos pelos investigadores Rosa Varela Gomes e Mário Varela Gomes da Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas da Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
De acordo com os historiadores, faziam parte do Ribat duas mesquitas e várias edificações a ligá-las, numa extensão de cerca de 10.000 m2. Actualmente apenas é possível observar aquilo que as escavações devolveram à vista, ou seja, os restos de algumas estruturas que compunham o complexo.
A cache
Para descobrirem esta cache devem ir até ao Vale da Telha. Existe um caminho de terra batida que parte do Vale da Telha em direcção à Ponta da Atalaia que deve ser fácil de encontrar. No fim deste caminho podem estacionar o carro, ficando a cerca de 150m da cache. O terreno perto da cache é um pouco acidentado embora não seja propriamente perigoso. Devem contudo ter cuidado se forem à noite ou se levarem crianças.
A cache é um tupperware com cerca de 20x20x7cm de dimensão, envolvido num saco preto.

This cache will take you to Ponta da Atalaia, a small peninsula with about 250m long and 100m large, near Vale da Telha and Arrifana, a small fisherman village in the district of Aljezur. In this spot of Costa Vicentina you may enjoy a great view to both the North and the South, and in clear days you may even be able to see Cape Sardão (to the North) and Cape of São Vicente, the most SW point of the continent.
In a mix of historical reference and of a legend, here has born a place of cult and of war: the ribat al-Rihana (Arrifana), founded by a dissident (mystic) sufi, the Arab Ibn Qasî. This Ribat - a fortress with a hermitic purpose, bound to the holly war, simultaneously a conventual institution devoted to seclusion and/or isolation, to prayer and to the military defences of the Islamic domain - has been constructed by the order of Ibn Qasî probably around 1130, and abandoned in 1151. During this period it certainly suffered many works of enlargement and restructuring, as shown by the results of archaeological excavations that were done during the last years, led by Portuguese researchers Rosa Varela Gomes and Mário Varela Gomes from Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas da Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
According to these researchers, the Ribat had two mosques and several smaller buildings between them, in a total extension of about 10.000 m2. Currently it is only possible to observe what has been brought to light by the excavations, that is, a few remains of structures and walls that made up the Ribat complex.
The cache
To find this cache you have to drive to Vale da Telha. There is a small dust road from Vale da Telha heading to Ponta da Atalaia that should be easy to find. In the end of this road you can park the car, and you'll be about 150m from the cache. The terrain near the cache is a bit rough, but not really dangerous. However, you must be really careful if you go during the night or if you take children with you.
The cache is a tupperware with a dimension of about 20x20x7cm, wrapped inside a black plastic bag.
