SCHOOL DAYS
School days, school days,
Dear ol golden rule days,
Readin’ an ritin’ and ‘rithmetic
Taught to the tune of a hick’ry stick.
I was your queen in calico,
You were my bashful barefoot beau
And I wrote on you slate
“I love you Joe”
When we were a couple of kids.
Gone are the days of one room schools and the hickory stick
and unfortunately, many of our rural schools as well. Goshen County has lost a few over the years including Huntley, Wyo. Claim to fame---Stan Hathway, a former governor of Wyoming in 1967-1975 , graduated from Huntley High School. The school has been closed for many years and the small town of Huntley is no longer as it used to be. The population in the 2000 census was listed as 21. There is still a post office in the town and a few old homes. The Table Mountain Vineyards are nearby producing Wyoming Wine
from locally grown fruit.
This is a theme cache of school supplies. The container is a 3 cup camouflaged cylinder. Please hide as found and trade like items.
