After spending a day manning safety point B on the famous Whaanga
Coast stage of Rally NZ on 2006, I decided the majestic view and
serenely remote location deserved a cache. Well, I was back in the
same point for Rally NZ 2007, so it happened.
The Rally drivers travel the 29km of this twisty, gravel road to
Raglan in less than 25 minutes, but don’t try that, not with the
road open to traffic from both directions, or without the
ambulances every 10km, and helicopters overhead.
Do enjoy your drive to this beautiful spot, the route through Te
Mata is the easiest (and sealed most of the way), but south from
Raglan will show you much of the road the rally stage traverses,
and present you the wonderful views of this rugged coast. You will
pass a number of caches on the way through also.
This is a simple drive-up-and-reach cache, you are looking for a
1litre sistema box with a log and usual trinkets. As this is rather
remote, and may not get too many visitors, please be careful to
close the box with nothing caught in the seal.
