Why "Which Bend?"? Well - look at the map. It is near Big Bend, North Bend, and West Bend. If you think finding a geocache means nothing more than driving right to a parking lot, getting out of the car, and walking 50 feet with enough clues that you might not even need to turn on your GPS, then don't try this one. As near as I can tell you cannot drive to much closer than 1.9 miles away. There are several different possibilities of where to start. I won't tell you how to get there, but I personally took the kayak out on the big water with a 20-25 MPH wind out of the south. That made it a little more fun (er, I mean, challenging). I was going to load this with Travel Bugs as an incentive to get people looking for it, but was afraid that they might sit there too long.

So - with all this said - go get it. You are looking for an ammo can and will have a great view of the Missouri River / Lake Sharpe from the cache.

Note - this cache is along the river on Corp of Engineer land. The best route to get to it is by coming at it from the water. If you decide to walk to it you may want to check to see who the land belongs to that you will be walking across. It appears to be tribal land.

Since we were camping just 2 miles away I paddled over to this to check to make sure it was still intact. No snakes, but the cache was right were it belongs and waiting to be found again.

Well, we finally found a nice day without wind to take the geo-canoe out to do this one. When we left there was no wind and only waves from all the fisherman and their boats. So we made quick work of paddling over to the cache site. We looked and looked but we sure couldn't find any rattle snakes. Maybe the next cachers will have better luck. On a nice fall day like today we were hoping to find some laying out in the sun.

Once we got to the cache site, it was an easy hike and find for the cache.

This was our find #600. We were wanting to have #600 be a nice, fun challenging cache. This was fun, challenging and had a great view. We'll post some pics from our trip.

Cycled thru some of our travel bugs but decided not to leave any as it might be some time before this one is found again.

This cache was found with Geoboss after a long water voyage. Once in the cache area, we prepared ourselves for a possible snake sighting. Luckily none were seen, mush to the disapiontment of Geoboss who wanted to see one. TNLNSL. TFTC!

This was the first cache of the day for Britt98 and I on 08/08/08. We were camped at Farm Island for the weekend and still had the kyak on the car. We decided to get this one out of the way first. The voyage to the location was a good one. After reading the previous log, we found a couple of sticks and headed fort the cache making sure to watch for snakes. No snakes were found and the cache was found quickly in the location I'd spotted a half mile away. the trip back to the car got a little more difficult as the wind picked up out of the south. I was actually hoping to see a rattle snake, as I have never seen one in the wild. TNLNSL. TFTC!!!

---(2008-07-13, 15:41:44)--- This cache was quite the adventure and provided us with fun and excitement galore on this gorgeous warm day. We launched the sail-assisted kayak from the boat dock at the West Bend Rec Area and headed off to the north for the 1.9 miles to the cache. The wind was ample out of the west and we made good time on a close reach all the way to the cache. We landed on the beach below the cache where we donned hiking gear and set off to our fate.

We really enjoyed the views of the River and the Big Bend all the way to the cache. But first we discovered a Department of the Interior Survey Marker, picture provided, but which is not on the Benchmark List at geocaching.com. Intriguing.

As we neared to top of the bluff and the cache area, Ms. Plainsdrifter warned of a cow pie, then exclaimed "the cow pie with the snake on it!" A rather large rattler was squirming by Ms. Plainsdrifter making that certain unmistakable warning buzzing sound. We stood there aghast as the snake crawled to within 1 foot of the cache, coiled, and fixated on us in a defensive posture as it continued to send out its chilling warning.

Now what to do, the rattler was coiled and upset, and seemingly guarding the cache. Yikes! How to get that log signed seemed improbable as the snake wasn't budging. Nobody would believe this excuse for not signing. So, with the snake watching Mr. Plainsdrifter to the east, Ms. Plainsdrifter, giving the snake a wide berth, walked west to the opposite side, and with piece of driftwood picked up on the beach for the hike, managed to extract the cache without drawing the snake from its coil. Picture of the coiled snake watching Ms Plainsdrifter extract the cache is provided.

We had our signing ritual and swag exchange, then managed to get the cache back where it belonged, again without drawing fire from the vigilant snake, and off we went as if whistling past the cemetery, delighted we were able to pull it all off. We had a great broad reach run on the lake all the way back to the boat dock. This was not our first snake encountered on the geo-trail, but it was the first that managed to assume its defensive coil so close to the cache.

This cache is grossly underrated when guarded such, and we certainly feel like we deserve a 5/5 for this one. Thanks for putting this very cool and scenic cache here, DRAGN tamers, we enjoyed this one immensely, and it is one we won't soon forget. Ms decided it was a lucky and charming piece of driftwood and brought it along on the kayak for a souvenir. T: golf tee belt caddy; L: spotted yellow flat fish and a lavender corvette race car #5. Great Hide! TFTC! SL.
