Geocache Description:

Short up hill on wooded old road to great 180 degree view and a nice cache

Banks Pinnacle
A nice scramble up a short .2 mile leg burner and you’ll be rewarded with a spectacular 180 degree view of Cardigan Mt., the North East end of Grafton Pond, and the Ruggles Mine area. The top of Banks Pinnacle is granite with veins of white and pink quartz, felspar and some mica. It is quite interesting Geology. The view of the distant mountains to the North East hold mines that provided mica for the US since colonial times. I have been told that the area below the steep rock face holds an abundance of white and pink quartz pocket size fragments. Please be aware that the edges of Banks Pinnacle sharply drop off so watch your footing and young ones. There is an area where you can walk down the face which is to the left of the pinnacle as you look out to Cardigan Mt. The cache is hidden away from the viewing area and not close to the edge. The trail can be Winter friendly with snow shoes, but the cache may need some digging to find.
The best approach coming from Hanover/Lebanon/Vermont is from Grafton Pond road from 4A in Enfield. Pass the pond parking lot and in about 1/2 mile turn onto Hardy Hill Road. In .2 mile the single car parking access will be on your left. If there is a car there, .2 mile past the access is a turn around where you can park and walk back. You can also access via Hardy Hill Road by the Rt. 4A sand shed if you are driving from the New London/ Warner/Concord area. Follow the road until you get to the access parking on your right.
The Cache is a large Lock and Lock which contains lots of goodies for kids and adults as well as starting off with 2 travel bugs; 1 from Germany and one from the cache owner.
