Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Chauncy Vale Wildlife Sanctuary, where distinguished author Nan Chauncy (1900-1970) spent much of her life and wrote more than a dozen children’s books.

Chauncy Vale is one of the oldest private conservation areas in Australia. Most of the current reserve was declared a private wildlife sanctuary in 1946 and was subsequently bequeathed to the local council in 1988 by Nan Chauncy’s widow, Anton Chauncy.

'The whole sanctuary is a valuable heritage and natural environment study site. It forms part of a complex environment with a rich diversity of ecosystems, varying from dry sclerophyll vegetation on sandstone to wet forest on dolerite clay. It is home to a considerable variety of native fauna and was used by Tasmanian Aboriginal tribes before European settlement and as a refuge by early bushrangers.' Cache details
The cache is placed just past the caves that were the inspiration for at least one of her books. There is a 3km circuit that leads up to and past the caves, and then back via the creek.

The hide itself isn’t too tricky (and no rock climbing is required to reach the cache), so hopefully the hint isn't necessary, but GPS accuracy was around 10m at time of placement, so I would recommend taking the hint just in case.

The cache is a clear 2.2 litre container. Original contents: wallet (empty!), memo pad, glitter glue sticks in a variety of fashion colours, bubble mix, sand goanna, frilled-neck lizard, bird, wallaby (?) and joey, gecko.

Chauncy Vale Wildlife Sanctuary is open 9 am to sunset daily except on days of total fire ban in 62 phone area. Entry Fee $2.00 per adult (No charge for children).

Please check http://chauncy-vale.tassie.org/ for current details about access to the sanctuary.
