Since there are a couple of caches near Barstow with references to the desert tortoise, I thought I would add one to the mix. In my two years in this area, I have only seen one of these tortoises and unfortunately he had been struck by a passing vehicle and killed. With my cache, I can guarantee you will see a tortoise of some sort. Cache is a camouflaged cookie tin hidden just off of Fort Irwin Road. Hurry up and find him before he makes it to the "tortoise fence" FTF can claim a set of unactivated TB dog tags if they choose. Good Luck!
