Geocache Description:

A kame in Jasper National Park

We have seen this mound for many years on our way to town from the ski hill and wondered what it was. We finally walked into it on the day our granddaughter Miriam was born. Hence the name for this cache. We found out later that the “mound” is actually a kame produced when a melting glacier got a hole in it. The gravel, silt etc fell through the hole in the ice and formed the cone-shaped mound. The kame is 10 metres higher than the surrounding area and much higher than the river bed. Park at 52 48.722, 118 02.359 – there’s room to get completely off the road, and there are toilet and garbage facilities just across the bridge from here. Use the trail. Stay high until you reach the large clearing then follow your GPSr to the cache and kame. No bushwhacking is required. A number of Jasper National Park centennial pins are in the container. FTF is a gift certificate to A&W (Mr Daps coffees there regularly with the “old boys”). Help yourself to a pin but leave no trade item.

It is a privilege to be able to place a geocache in a National Park. Please honour this privilege. Park regulations require that caches contain no trade items. Stay on the trails. This cache was pre-approved by Parks Canada.
