Geocache Description:

I know there are a number of  families who like to get the little ones involved in geocaching and suitable caches are sometimes hard to determine beforehand.

With that in mind I have enlisted the help of my keen 8 y.o.assistant to set up a good old fashioned treasure hunt that should appeal. A not too arduous hike on a well formed track, some great views, a secret  tunnel to explore, a mystery word to decode, and a well stocked treasure chest at the end of it all. Big kids most welcome too of course but go easy on the loot, OK?

Cache is on the Northern walkway starting at Johnsonville. Park at the listed parking co-ordinates at the top of Truscott Ave, take the track to the resorvoir, and proceed  to the posted co-ordinates. Here you will find a secret place which you must enter, you will need a torch. Make you way to the very end and find the name of a country written in red letters on the brick wall. You now need to decode that name as per the table below to find the co-ordinates of the cache itself. Continue up the track untill you find it.

Final cache is at S 41deg 13.(first three letters of name)   E 174deg 47.(last three letters of name)

The cache itself is just a little way off the track in a safe location, please watch out for the young plants on the side of the track.

Recommended that you return to your car by continuing around the loop track, the return path can be found at S 41deg 13.793, E 174deg 47.177. This will additionally take you past the Dancing Stream cache - will need mum or dad's help for this one. Not tired yet? then you might also like to consider continuing upward to the TV Heaven cache, you will be about half way there at this point.

Family groups should allow about one hour, maybe more, or two hours if you continue up to TV Heaven. Dogs are welcome but should be on a lead due to poison baits in the area.

Please swap fairly, have fun, and don't forget those torches!
