If you've solved this, but haven't made it out to sign the log, feel free to still come out. I'm going to leave the container in place for a while. As far as I'm concerned, as long as you solve it and sign the log, you can log it as a find even after it is archived. (Not sure that is kosher with GC rules. If not, I'm sure someone will let me know.)
