Rocky Pond Ramble
. This multi takes you on a 1.25 mile loop around and about Rocky Pond starting at the Myles Standish State Forest Rocky Bog parking area. Coordinates are for the first stage. Access to the large parking area is from the South through the State Forest or from the North on Rocky Bog Road to Bare Hill Road in Plymouth. The recommended route for RPR takes you on a variety of dirt and woods roads, forest paths and trails, along a short section of macadam (grassy shoulders to walk on) and along the edges of the “revived” bogs to the cache. Aside from one short, semi steep scrabble to reach an early stage, the terrain is generally flat with good footing. There is minimal auto traffic on the roads and, due to the proximity of old summer cottages around the pond, no hunting in the area. There is no need to encroach on any of the cottages.
(Updated 9/16/11) The stages vary in difficulty from very easy and in the open, to sort of hard and mostly concealed. Given the number of dnfs recorded I've increased the difficulty rating to 4 and changed some of the hints.
(8/7/13 Update) See log. Cache area warning:. Don't go in the log pile, it's not in there. Many stages are “in the open” from the right angle.
(9/25/22 Update) In the 15 years since this cache was placed, the forest has continued growing, Access to some of the stages (3 and 6-9) is more difficult now, but all stages are in place and visible upon approach. Locating the trail to Stage Three in particular is now more difficult and I have added alternative ways to reach the stage or deduce a way to Stage Four without it. Hints have been adjusted as needed. Please re-hide all stages as found and use some artistry to re hide the cache itself. It’s fairly large (football sized) and has some stuff to trade, if you want to. As always, I suggest you check the maintenance logs and gallery for any updates before heading out. Enjoy the Ramble. .
