Set on the side of Coombe Hill, this cache has spectacular views of the Chilterns countryside. Hence, we've stashed a pair of binoculars to take it all in. First one there will be able to see it all! From up there, you can see Chequers, the Prime Minister's summer residence, the Vale of Aylesbury and a few towns off in the distance. Near Wendover (Bucks), the cache is easily accessible by train from London.
We set this cache on a 7 mile walk from Great Missenden to Wendover and we highly suggest combining the hunt with this walk. Both ends are on the Chiltern Line (London Marylebone). The Ordnance Survey Explorer 181 "Chiltern Hills North: Aylesbury, Berkhamstead & Chesham" plots a few possibilities, including stretches on the South Bucks Way and National Ridgeway trails. The land from Great Missenden to Wendover is pretty hilly and crosses a few valleys, from the top of which you can see for miles around. Make sure to stop in Dunmore, all 10 homes worth of a tiny hamlet about halfway. There are plenty of sheep out here. Lot's of forest. Plenty of mud. Good stuff.
If you're the driving type, the site is also accessible by car, inside Coombe Hill Park (it has a car park), run by the National Trust. Out of Wendover and heading west on Ellesborough Road, the park is off to the left and another left on what my map says is an unnamed road (sorry - can't get better at the details as I didn't drive!).
You'll notice that the stash is "well protected", so be careful. Once you've found it, celebrate at the Shoulder of Mutton pub in Wendover, next to the train station.
