Geocache Description:

There were so many potential hiding places here but in the end I opted for this spot. When I placed it, the sun was shining and the gorgeous autumn coloured trees were a sight to behold. Why not follow some of the woodland tracks and you must visit the Vat. On the day I placed the cache I saw a total of 3 Red Squirrels here.

Burn O Vat
Situated on low-lying ground, Muir of Dinnet National Nature Reserve (NNR) consists of extensive Birchwood, wetlands and heather moor. In its centre are two large lochs, Davan and Kinord, which provide a winter home for thousands of geese. To the west, you can find the hidden Vat, a spectacular geological feature famed for concealing the 18th Century outlaw, Gilderoy Macgregor.

There are many fine circular walks through the NNR, passing by such features as abandoned settlements and an ancient Celtic cross. There is an excellent visitor centre at the Burn O'Vat, to help you make the most of your visit.

Location

Immediately to the north and west of Dinnet village, on the A93 and A97.

Facilities

Variety of gentle walks (suitable for most abilities) to the Burn O' Vat and Loch Kinord.
