This cache is inspired by Shakespeare's comedy The
Winter's Tale. A synopsis of the play as well as the full
text can be found here. Being one of Shakespeare's lesser known
and performed plays, there have been no noteworthy film or
television adaptations, however a production starring Derek Jacobi will be released in
2009.
"Though I am not naturally honest, I
am so sometimes by chance."
(Act IV, Scene III)
Like all my other Shakespeare caches, you do not have to read
the play to find the cache.
The Area
This is an unimproved conservation area. The hike starts out
kind of uninteresting but it gets nicer the deeper you go in. It
finishes up in a nice spot near Caesar Brook. I know, you're
asking yourself, "Muchado, why name this cache Winters Tale? You
should name it Julius Caesar." And I would agree except that
I already have a cache named Julius Caesar. But this is a
cool place nonetheless.
I saw lots of signs of animal life while hiking out in the snow,
so keep your eyes open.
It's very easy to miss this area. The entry is marked only by
two short posts, one on either side of an overgrown logging road.
It's between two homes so it looks like someone's yard.. Just
follow the logging road as far as you can, then it's a light
bushwhack to the cache.
The Cache
It's a 30 cal ammo can in the woods by a babbling brook. I named
this cache "The Winter's Tail" because I've been through this area
in both winter and summer. It's a lot easier in winter.
Parking is an issue at this cache. You'll have to use your best
judgment, but please don't park on the main road - there's not
enough room for safe parking. I parked about 100' from the entrance
on a nearby side street. I think that's your best bet.
