Geocache Description:

On an island that the Loop Pkwy runs through

Description by tenebrus

Please do NOT leave any TBs here. The low frequency of visits here will languish that TBs here for way too long almost any owner's like. Thank you for your cooperation.

Highly recommended is the water route. It should be noted that one needs only kayak/canoe across the channel and then walk along the shoreline if distance watercrafting is not your thing. Crossing either bridge by foot is not recommended. Alternately, one could be dropped off and picked up safely at the median turn around approximately 0.5 miles north of the southern end of the Loop parkway - be careful crossing the 2 lanes - and turn this into a nice 0.5+ mile hike. (Technically, this is not signed against, but do not park your car there - have your driver return at a specified time.) The signage on the island (1) prohibits crossing the bridges as a pedestrian, (2) prohibits stopping on the shoulders except for emergency, and (3) that this is a bird nesting area. Please respect all 3.

Only, I am not uptight about WAAS vs. non-WAAS waypoint postings, but in the spirit of the original description (below), please state whether a waypoint posted was WAAS or not. I have also left the original hint intact, but find the 1/2 star deduction slight silly.

There is no pen/pencil in this cache - please bring one to leave. Also even though I am close to this cache the boat aspect makes it difficult to maintain - Please help maintain (babysit) it and if needed move it to the nearest hiding spot and email me the non WAAS waypoint (turn WAAS off please for the waypoint) and description - I don't want to use WAAS on my hides.

This cache was placed by boat and that's how I recommend you find it. The cache is on the west island from the draw bridge towards the north.

The cache contains some LAP lids, a where's George, some other trinkets and an older but still working radar detector.

To get there by boat is easy just get to the Loop Parkway draw bridge and go to the north west side beach. Other ways to get there - well you can use a helicopter I guess. What about a car you ask. I don't know if you can legally get to it by car.

The 3 possibilities I see for car access are: 1 park in Point Lookout (marina, beach(fee), town) and walk across the 1st Loop Parkway bridge and along the parkway till you get to the bridge - but I don't think you are allowed to walk along the parkway. 2 - there is a no parking sign on the SE corner of the draw bridge - which means you can stop to drop off or pick up passengers problem is you must cross the bridge (you don't have to cross the parkway though since you can walk under the bridge) - there might be a small walkway for the bridge operator - there might be other no parking signs at the other corners of the bridge. Your 3rd choice is really a matter of luck - the parkways have 'emergency stopping only' If you are lucky enough to breakdown on the west side of the bridge southbound lane you will be within 0.10 mi of the cache and guess you can search for it while waiting for help to arrive.

I was getting excellent geometry and got an waypoint with an error of 12ft. If you find for some reason it's off you can post your waypoint BUT DO NOT POST ANY WAYPOINT THAT YOU GOT WITH WAAS!!! - No WAAS waypoints on my geocache sites please.

The area is basically sand dunes w/ some trees and vegetation clumps. There is lots of broken glass as this was once a hangout spot for boaters but they have moved on to nicer areas as they littered this one. The cache is in one of those clumps on the ground. MS Terra server has an excellent view of the cache site and I can make out the actual 'clump' where I places it - you must zoom in to max and re-center it.

A stick might be helpful moving the vegetation around so you can see the ground better.

You will be walking through some tall grass an even though I've never been 'ticked' I wouldn't be shocked if someone reports finding one there so bring repellent and check yourself.

The spoiler gives you what to look for in the 'clump' and the spoiler takes from you 1/2 a star of difficulty and you are required to post that you used the spoiler.

Good Luck
