The cache is placed at the north-east coast of Madeira in an altitude of 410 m above sea level at a steep scarp. The terrain is overgrown with grass and copse. The walk on the “Levada do Canical” is easy. The track to the “Boca” is slippery after rain.

The route from Machico to Porto da Cruz was an important connection between north and south coast of Madeira in former times, when no roads had been available above the pass of Portela. People and goods have been carried on this dangerous track.
The track starts in the middle of the “Levada do Canical”. Look for the marker “Vereda da Boca do Risco” (Spoiler 1). You cannot loose your way, it’s the only track. You cross the dead forest. Before you pass the pass (Spoiler 2) turn left and follow the narrow track up into the overgrown scarpe. After 10 minutes, you will see white rocks (rocks overgrown with white lichen) at your right shoulder. Go another 10 meters.

If you start early in the morning, you can combine this cache with the walk to Porto da Cruz. But keep in mind, after the pass you walk along the abyss and you have to be free of vertigo and giddiness. The walk from “Boca do Risco” to Porto da Cruz takes another 4 hours.
