Humberto II nasceu em Racconigi, a 15 de Setembro de 1904 e veio a falecer em Genebra, a 18 de Março de 1983, filho de Vítor Emanuel III; foi um singular rei de Itália.
Foi o único filho varão de seu pai, pelo que à nascença recebeu o título de Príncipe do Piemonte, na qualidade de herdeiro do trono italiano.
Na verdade, reinou apenas durante um mês, pois em 2 de Junho seguinte, os italianos pronunciaram-se, em referendo, pela instauração da república (ainda que por uma curta margem de diferença). Dias depois o Rei seguiu para o exílio, instalando-se em Cascais, Portugal, nunca lhe tendo sido concedida autorização para regressar a Itália.
Humberto II was born in Racconigi, on 15 September, 1904 and died in Geneva, on 18 March, 1983, son of Vítor Emanuel III; he was a singular king of Italy. He was his father’s only son, and therefore received the title of Piemonte Prince, the heir of the Italian throne. In fact, he reigned only for one month, given that on the second of June, 1983, following a referendum vote, the Italians chose the instauration of the Republic (although separated only by a small difference). Some days later the King exiled, and moved to Cascais, Portugal, never having been granted authorization to return to Italy.
