Geocache Description:

This cache is located on Nevada County property adjacent to the old HEW building on Willow Valley Road, or what some have called the County's "Albatross." (see The Union newspaper article from August 29, 2007).

The building is old (built in 1860, it was the old Nevada County Hospital), and so renovation would cost $13.8 million. Just to demolish the building would cost $2.25 million. Take a look at the building when you try to find the cache, and see if you can come up with any ideas for the place! Please respect the signage and don't try to go inside.

Until others figure out an economically feasible way to use this place, I figure that this is a great place for a geocache. Besides which, I've recently learned (the hard way) that if you don't snag a place for a cache around these parts while you're thinking about it, another more prolific cache-placer WILL beat you to it!

The coords listed are the best I could manage given the tree cover. You do have to enter the trees a bit to find the cache. If you're having fits with your GPS, look to the hint. You're looking for an army green match container. Good parking can be found around the east side of the buildings, or around back near the cemetery office at: N 16.042 W 121 0.360

Enjoy the area, and the nearby grounds. There is a picnic area uphill from the cache that looks like a nice place to bring a bag lunch. I saw several deer in the area when I placed the cache.

Finally, don't try this one at night. Besides being a bit spooky at night, this place is definitely worth seeing in the daylight.
