Geocache Description:

This should be a quick, little, park n' grab.

This cache was placed for my nephew and his family, "brew cachers" out of Milwaukee. This cache is near where the old Wausau Brewery was located, and where beer stopped being made in the 1960s. One hundred years ago, nearly every mid sized city in Wisconsin had at least one brewery, but nearly all have disappeared today, other than the micro-breweries which are now springing up again. This brewery once brewed beers named Cloverbelt, Adel Brau and Rib Mountain Lager. It only brewed "near beer" in the 1920s, although there is a story about Federal agents visiting Wausau looking for the origin of some real beer sent to Al Capone's business competitor in Chicago allegedly sent from this area. Also, it seems that about half of all of the Prohibition violations in Wisconsin during this time were in Marathon county.
One of the buildings now is used as a power plant for the local community college and another is owned by the Wausau school district as a maintenance plant. You can still see the Wausau Brewing Co. sign on the powerplant. The cache had to be moved from its original location due to its close proximity to the railroad tracks behind the building. The parking lot is permit only, you may want to park there and quickly leave, or you could park on the street and still have a very short walk to the cache. It will still be easy to find. The container you are looking for is a 35mm film container type, camo wrapped.
