**************** IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Due to the Grand Prix, City Circle trams will operate between the
corner of Harbour Esplanade and Bourke Street and the intersection
of La Trobe Street and Spencer Street, travelling via Flinders,
Spring and La Trobe Streets in both directions.
This will not impact the History Challenge or Scavenger Search
activities.
A gpx file is available here so you can pre-load your GPS and save
time on the day. This will also give you an idea as to where you
will be travelling. What you will need to find will only be
revealed on the day.

**************** IMPORTANT INFORMATION

9:30am on Sunday, 16th March
2008 marks the start of this greatest scavenger search the
geocaching community will ever see. Ride the FREE City Circle tram
around town, check out the sites, find some history about our town
and scavenge treasures as you enjoy what Melbourne has to offer
during the autumn months. The scavenger search will start at
10:00am when the City Circle trams open for business.
Please assemble at the starting point from 9:00am to 9:30am to
enable the distribution of information packs and other
paraphernalia.
The start and finish locations for this event have been
updated.
Due to the nature of the area around the original meeting point
(severe lack of parking, major construction works, lack of access),
the meeting point for this event has been changed to Batman Park on
the Yarra.
S 37 49.305
E 144 57.428
The facilities at the start / finish location include free electric
BBQ's, toilets only a short walk across the park, water on tap and
seating for a small number of people. There are no tables, so while
the organisers will attempt to provide a table or two, if you
really want a seat or table, it's probably best to bring your
own.
Parking can be had for a small fee either at Crown Casino (opposite
Batman Park cross the Yarra river), in the multi deck carpark at
the former World Trade Centre (corner of FLinders and Spencer
Streets) or in the surrounding streets, which by all indications
should be easy enough on a Sunday morning and I believe is
unrestricted with regards to time.
The organisers will be in attendance at the assembly area from the
start of the event until the completion of the City Circle
component. This means you can bring your seats, tables, etc, and
leave them with the organisers. Please note that while all care
will be taken with items left behind, no responsibility can be
assumed.
The event will be about 2 to 3 hours long, not including any time
you want to hang around after the activities of the event complete.
It's not a strenuous walk around town. It's all about a leisurely
activity amongst friends, with, of course, a little bit of
competition to spice up the day.
Planned activities will include all of those aged 1 to 100. Note
that the City Circle trams will form a big part of the days
activities, so stroller and wheelchair access may be less than
desirable.
There is a special activity which will involve the younger team
members which will require all other participants to bring along
some "bribes". The more "bribes" you bring along, the greater
chance you have of winning and the more fun you can add to the
young ones experience.
You will need to bring (at a minimum):
* GPSr(s)
* Pen
* Clipboard
* Digital camera
* Food & drink
* A backpack or similar carry bag for your scavenged treasures
* Bribes in the form of lollies or chocolates
You will also need to bring your sense of fun and scavenging sense
with you on the day. Closer to the event, a loc/gpx file will be
made available for points of interest so you can prepare your GPS
in advance of the event. What you will find there will only be
known on the day of the event.
The route will cover one lap of the City Circle tram route with 4
or 5 specific locations that you will leave the tram, but hopefully
complete the activities in time to get back on the next tram along
the route. Of course you can leave the planned route at any time to
complete the scavenges as needs fit. Take it as easy or as tough as
you like.
Prizes will be on offer to those who do best as well as rewards for
some of the other activities that will occur on route.
For the scavenger component there are three prizes on offer:
First prize is a 50 calibre ammo can, pre-painted with a 3 litre
sistema container inside, stuffed with treasures.
Second prize is a 30 calibre ammo can, pre-painted with a 2 litre
sistem container inside, stuffed with treasures.
Third prize is a small 30 calibre ammo can, pre-painted with a 2
litre container inside, stuffed with treasures.
There is also a game that will be played on the day which comes
with a prize of a 50 calibre ammo can, pre-painted with a 3 litre
sistema container inside, stuffed with treasures.
There is also an sponsor with a few giveaways and a worthwhile
prize that can be claimed through cleverness on the day.
I hope to see you there on the day.
