Trenches of medieval castles It was a two-stage multi-cache earlier. But the first stage (N 46° 33.091' E 17° 17.434') was destroyed and this cache got one-stage one. The regular cache with logbook is hidden at the trenches of Szöcsény Castle of Somogyzsitfa village. Coordinates are: N46° 32,233' E017° 19,268'. You can seek only this now.
The original description was as it follows. But you can seek only the 2nd stage now. You can find a micro box containing the coordinates of the second cache in a little hollow under the roots of a fir in Vári-hill in Somogyzsitfa. N46° 33.091' E017° 17.434' 110m The Vári-hill Castle and the Szöcsény Castle are medieval originated ones. Those were enforced in the times of the beginning the islam invasion in Hungary. These castles repulsed osmanly sieges between 1526-1566. Then Szigetvár, the strongest castle of South-Transdanubia was occupied by Turkish army and the defenders of Somogy county small castles were forced to leave these places. The legendary commander, Thury György reconquered and reconstructed them, but those were annihilated later. You can see only the remained earthworks today. 01. Vári-domb. In Szöcsény-castle you find a medieval origined chapel that is the chancel of the gothic temple in the castle from Y1300s.
