Cache is
located at the base of a tree near the former site of the
Dayton Peak Fire Lookout, constructed in 1946. It was a 20x40'
crew station with a 12x12' second story observatory added
prior 1957. The building was replaced in 1964 with a standard
40' timber live-in DNR tower, which was abruptly removed in
1969.
Hike is 9 miles round trip, starting at the gate on W Rock Creek Rd
off of the Shelton-Matlock Rd.
