1st State Park Traditional Cache

This cache is temporarily unavailable.

Kealia: This cache is in the very heart of the local CZU Lightning Complex fire and I don't know when the area will be open to check on this cache - or even access the area for that matter. The gem that is Big Basin State Park will not be the same after this so I'll have to take a wait-and-see approach as it relates to the future of this cache.

Geocache Description:

An ammo box near a historical place in Big Basin Redwood State Park.

"A group of conservationists led by Andrew P. Hill camped at the base of Slippery Rock on May 15, 1900 and formed the Sempervirens Club to preserve the redwoods of Big Basin. Their efforts resulted in deeding 3,500 acres of primeval forest to the State on September 20, 1902 to mark the beginning of the California State Park System."

Given the beautiful parks that we have around here and the joy I get from caching in them, it seemed appropriate to point out this location to others as well. The cache is located roughly 100 feet or so away from the plaque commemorating Big Basin as the first California State Park.
