Geocache Description:

'H' is for a Healthy Heart Heaving Hike!!

This is the H from mwein’s Vermont Vocabulary Virus cache.
But don’t worry, this hike really isn’t "heart heaving", it should get you warmed up though!

A while ago BilboB put out the caches DOH! and No Paine, No Gain.
In the description he gave parking coords to be at the end of Prospect Street in Northfield. Not knowing any better I followed his suggestion and used the Paine Mountain Trail to reach the two caches. It was, by the way, a wonderful hike.

I later learned that others have found a different, some what closer to the top, parking spot. Wait a minute! That’s not fair! You're all missing something!
So we placed this cache for 2 reasons:

  1. We don’t want anyone to miss the beginning of the Paine Mountain Trail (for those who missed it the first time up)
  2. This will be a great companion cache on your way to No Paine, No Gain and DOH! (for those who have yet to make the hike)

Yes, you should park at the top of Prospect Street, but don’t block the gate, and head off to the trailhead and then on to stage one of this cache.

This is a 3 stage multi, first 2 stages are micros, the final is a regular of the lock-n-lock type. All stages are winter friendly. The final is near a beaver pond, we didn’t spot any beavers while we were there, but we did see 3 sets of geese prints in the snow as they followed the trail for the last 100 meters to the pond, looked pretty funny.

The hike itself is 2.4 km (one way) and will get you half way to the top of Paine Mountain. The stages are not that far off the trail, so there isn't really any bushwhacking involved.

When putting in the containers we think they will be "summer" accessible! As we placed the final we had a nice spot and when we checked the snow depth we were standing on at least 3’ of snow! We needed to make a small adjustment to make sure it will be reachable when all the snow is gone!
