Near the entrance to the Sprig Recreation Area, I stopped at the information kiosk/signboard. Along with a posted copy of the park map, the display also included several photographs--one of which was "serpentine grasslands."
While hiking the Merry Go Round Trail, I found what I thought to be the area shown in the photograph. The grasslands were certainly there and many of the large rocks scattered throughout the landscape did have a brittle texture and green coloration. Serpentine Grasslands, to be sure!
This cache search is not meant to be a nasty treasure hunt. There is no need to lift or move any rocks until you reach the cache site. Follow the coordinates to a rock resembling a large sliced melon--then lift the little guys nearby.
The container is a clear plastic waterproof box filled with trade items, a log book, and a pen.
Mt. Madonna County Park is open year-round from 8 a.m. until sunset. Free parking is available at the Sprig Recreation Area, the site of the trailhead.
