Geocache Description:

Parking is available opposite St Cuthbert's church at N54.35.290 W001.04.900. Parking can be busy at the beginning and end of the day when children at the Kirkleatham School for Special Needs are being dropped off and collected (not weekends). The path into the park goes through the gate and past the school.

This cache is laid in the grounds of Kirkleatham Hall, which belonged to the Newcomen family. Not much is left of the estate, apart from a derelict stable block, some ornate gateposts, an ornamental tower which was converted to a gun turret in WW11, and extensive grounds which are now a grassy park, open to the public. Within the park is a 'folly', where the first part of the cache used to be when it was a multicache, but it was muggled too many times to retain it.
Beware, there are many nettles about but there is a way to the cache which avoids the nettles but you do have to wade through some thin bushes. Not buggy or wheelchair friendly for the last 50 feet. ( A number of people have complained of inaccurate co ords. Try N54 35 454 W 001 04 490 and see if they help. Thanks to Tentbrisers for that)

If you have time, the nearby Old Hall Museum is well worth a visit (includes an owl centre), as are the Almshouses built in 1676 by Sir William Turner. Lots more information, for those interested, can be found by putting Kirkleatham into Google.
