La Grotta delle Capre è la più famosa e visitata fra le grotte del Circeo. È raggiungibile via terra con un sentiero e vi si può entrare attraverso una vecchia cancellata oggi in rovina. Si accede così ad un salone a forma di cupola, alto oltre 15 metri. La grotta presenta alcune prosecuzioni: un cunicolo sul fondo del salone, tra pareti bianche, prosegue per circa trenta metri di lunghezza sino ad ambienti sempre più ridotti. Un secondo ramo parte con un passaggio basso sul lato destro del salone; un terzo, infine, con una rampa accanto all'ingresso.
Fate attenzione ai gadini scivolosi
Staring from the parking lot, the pathway goes on towards left: at the end of the path overcome the rocks and you will find the entrance of the Grotta delle Capre, “protected” by a gate, which is usually open.
The inside of the cave has left many important indications: owing to the layers of the rock, it has been possible to understand that the level of the sea in ancient times was much higher by about two metres. Moreover, in this cave many important human discoveries dating back to the Neolithic era have been made.
