Geocache Description:

FORESTRY

This cache is being placed in keeping with the spirit inherent in “The Merit Badge Challenge” (GC19R3J).

For a complete description of the Forestry Merit Badge requirements see:

We have been members of the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests for a number of years.  This was a great way to combine our love of caching and the beautiful forests in our state.  We have been to many great Town Forests here in NH, but we are fortunate to live on the border of one of the lesser known TF's in the area.  We have placed other caches here to draw fellow cachers to our backyard.   The location of this cache is one of the most attractive spots that we have found to date.  There is a cascade through a jumble of rocks into a beautiful pool.  Bring a camera, a picnic lunch or a fishing rod to enjoy this spot.   We request that visitors who bring a camera post pictures from the cache overlooking the pool throughout the different seasons.

No Night Caching!

The Kingston Town Forest is located at the end of Valley Lane off Hunt Road in Kingston. The trailhead and trails are marked but there is no map at the current time.

The KTF is a mixed woods forest consisting of 110 acres. 105 acres are actively managed/logged. 5 acres are left unmanaged to demonstrate the differences of a managed and unmanaged woodland. If you take the blue trail, you will pass through a section of the unmanaged 5 acres of forest. If you take the red trail there are small stream crossings and very interesting terrain.  In December of 2007 the Kingston Conservation Commission received the John Hoar Award from the Rockingham County Woodland Owners Association for good forest practices.

Mr G was in Scouting for 3 years in the 1950's.  Both of our sons and Mr G were involved in Scouting for five years in the 1980's.  Swag includes the Nevada #2 geocoin, a patch from our old aligator patrol, an Oak coins patch. Award Patches: 2005 Fall Camporee, Expo 80, 79 Sherwood Isle Camporall, Aquila Camping Award,1984 Scatacook District snowbird, Hiker Award Diamond Jubilee, 75 Diamond Jubilee, 4 different Gen. Herkimer Council Camp Russel (one is Staff), Scatacook District, 1984 Fall Skill-O-Ree, 1983 Fairfield County Klondike Derby, Wonderful World of Scouting, 1980 Catholic Scout Retreat. We kept our Merit Badges.  Try to keep swag to small Travelers, Scouting or Forestry related items.

The 3 STAR (***) terrain rating is due to stream crossings. In dry seasons, the terrain is not difficult. The cache is about 40 - 50 feet off the trail, so please rehide as well as possible.

Wear ORANGE during HUNTING season!

Parking is available at the trailhead.

There is a Where's George $1 for FTF.
