Back in the day, playing with Lincoln Logs usually resulted in one of two outcomes: a sturdy, well-built structure or a pile of frustration--a Lincoln Logs tantrum!
Mt. Madonna's Contour Trail is an amazingly flat trail in an area that screams elevation. At its junction with Blackhawk Trail, look for the scattering of giant Lincoln Logs which gives this cache its name. However, do not even think of disturbing the pile--just view it from above. (NOTE: Blackhawk Trail is closed beyond this point.)
Satellite reception in this area is almost non-existent due to extreme tree cover. The cache is hidden just off the Contour Trail on the downhill side of the fallen log which lies just behind the trail junction marker. Firm footing is available from trail to cache.
The container is a clear plastic Lock & Lock box filled with trade items, a log book, and a pen.
Mt. Madonna County Park is open daily from 8:00 a.m. until sunset. Although this cache may be reached by hiking from Sprig Recreation Area, choosing to pay the vehicle entry fee at the park entrance lessens those draining elevation gains.
