Geocache Description:

This micro is a bison tube which only has room for a log. You do not need to go onto private property to find this cache. Please do NOT look for this after dark or before 8 am. Placed with permission.

Many know that Herbert Hoover was the 31st president of the United States. But, did you know that as a boy he lived in Newberg, Oregon and went to school at Friends Pacific Academy which became George Fox University? Many associate Hoover’s presidency with the Great Depression and terms like Hooverville (a shanty town) and Hoover blanket (newspapers used for blanketing). But, did you know he was a world-renowned engineer who played a major role in keeping the citizens of France, Belgium, and Russia from starving after WWI? I learned this and more by touring the Hoover-Minthorn House where Herbert Hoover lived with his aunt and uncle from 1885 to 1889, after being orphaned. This house is now a museum on the National Register of Historic Places. Permission to place this cache was given in 2008 by then museum curator, Rose Hall. In the fall of 2017, we connected with the new director, Sarah, and she confirmed that we still have permission to have a cache on the perimeter of the property. 7.7.08: According to local cacher, subwaymark, Hoover briefly worked for the streetcar system in Salem. 8.16.17: Because of seasonal variations that may make finding the cache more difficult in the summer, I bumped up the difficulty level to a 3.5.
