Geocache Description:

The cache is at the TOP of Lone Peak. The altitude is 11,253 ft. There are several choices in trails, they are all very steep. Once you get to Lone Peak Cirque and begin the ascent, the use of your hands will be required, both on the way up and on the way down. There are some very dangerous drop offs! Especially right at the end as you approach Lone Peak. PLEASE BE CAREFUL. Be aware of YOUR skills. If you don't feel confident, don't go to the top!

ATTENTION!!! This is now a virtual cache. There are a couple of reasons for the change. One of the reasons is the obvious controversy that a cache hidden in Wilderness Area is going to cause. Despite my belief that a cache hidden at the tip-top of a mountain isn't going to change the ecosystem, I'd rather not stir up controversy in the Geocaching community. I'm just here to have fun and place caches that allow others to experience what I've experienced. The other reason is because I wasn't able to hike back to the top this winter to replace the cache as I had planned, due to all the overtime my work is making us work because of the Olympics.

In order to log this cache you will need to take and submit a picture of the marker at the top. Make sure and take a picture of the right one, there are a few of them up there. Hint: The correct marker is gold! The cache is at the top of Lone Peak. When you're at the top, you're at the top. The marker is at the top! You DON'T need to climb DOWN or search AROUND any of the cliffs.

The four trails that I know of to access the Peak are as follows: Bells Canyon, Draper Ridge Trail, Corner Canyon (Jacob's Ladder) and Alpine (Hamongog Trail). Know which way you're going to start and do some research to find out where the trailheads are. I parked in Corner Canyon (dirt road) and took the Jacob's Ladder Trail. It took me 3 hrs 45 minutes to get to the top with a couple of diversions (I saw three Bucks 50 yards away and we all stared at eachother until I got bored).

I am an active 25 year old and was hiking alone. Please judge for yourself how long YOU will take. A lot of people hike to the Lone Peak Cirque and camp overnight before they summit the next day. I've read on other internet sites that it takes other people around 5-6 hours one way to hike to the top. (For additional help I've included a link to a very well done page on hiking to Lone Peak. Click Here

Again, please know your OWN skill level and plan accordingly. Have fun! Enjoy the view at the top! It's AWESOME!

Please also sign the virtual Lone Peak Summit Log Once upon a time there was a register at the top of Lone Peak, but no longer as far as I am aware. It would seem that somebody is making sure nothing "man-made" stays at the top. But they can't remove the National Geodetic Survey Marker!
