Short stroll through meadow and woodland to interesting feature.

The cache is situated near a Dene Hole, a narrow vertical shaft leading to chalk caves, dating from ancient times. This example is not particularly deep and is not even significant enough to merit a signpost, but it is an interesting feature in some pleasant woodland. Go to this wikipedia article for more information. The hole is covered by a grating, but it would still be advisable to keep control of small children.

Suggested parking: There is a free car park at N 51° 20.571 E 0° 03.896 which is open from dawn to dusk.

The cache site can be reached by definite paths, though some of them are narrow and as you approach you may need to wind back and forth a little. If you find you can’t go straight ahead, turning left or right will bring you to a suitable path.

As the tree cover may disrupt the reading, here is an easy way to find the cache. Stand by the North corner of the railings around the dene hole, facing inwards. Move along the railings two hand-spans to your right. Look towards the East corner and you will be directly facing the cache.
