Historical information, Granite Flat. Granite flat was a gold mining township from cira 1860 to 1890. During its peak it had 500 residents, 3 stores, 2 hotels,, and a wine bar! The first church was built in this area 1864, and the church that still stands here (S.t Marys catholic) was built in 1875 from locally fired hand made bricks. The last ceremony held here was in 1936. The nearby cemetary was in use from the 1860's and is still being used to this day. As the name suggests the cache can be found within the grounds of the cemetary. This information is from the historical plaque located at Granite Flat.
