The Basilica del Voto Nacional, is an imposing church, neo-Gothic
in style, with gargoyles representing the national fauna. It is
built on a high spot in the city center, a few blocks away from
Plaza de la Independencia. It was started at the end of the 19th
century but was not finished until the 20th Century. The building
is of stone, which is mostly from the Pichincha quarries. Inside,
this church has huge altarpieces in its lateral vaults. Its tower
is the highest of its kind in the whole of Ecuador and can be seen
from several points around the city. The church is an imposing
building with its big Gothic rose windows and stained glass windows
depicting Bible scenes.
For the South of the Equator Geocachers. Or those traveling through
who would like to do a little caching.
This cache is VERY small. Less then a micro, I would classify it
as the unofficial "nano".
Enjoy your walk around this area.
I did average the coordinates to get an accurate position to
help in your search.
If you find this cache, please be careful removing and replacing
the micro log that is inside. Obviously nothing to write with, so
BYOP.
Please take some photos and post and/or email. Thank
