Geologic saddle at the Teufelsley in the Kalltal
Die hier aufgeschlossene Gesteinsformation bietet ein besonders
spektakuläres Bild. Der kürzeste, mir bekannte Weg hat eine Länge
von ca. 1,5km. Das romantische Kalltal lädt aber zu einer längeren
Wanderung ein, bei der weitere Caches gehoben werden können.
Es handelt sich bei diesen gefalteten Gesteinsschichten um einen
sogenannten geologischen Sattel. Er besteht aus etwa 400 Millionen
Jahre alter Grauwacke, Sandstein und Tonschichten.
Gestein aus dieser Zeit bildet den größten Teil des Grundgebirges
der Nordeifel und des gesamten Rheinischen Schiefergebirges.
Der Felssattel ist nach Meinung von Geologen der beste Aufschluss
der gesamten Nordeifel. Die Gesteinsformation ist in ihrer
Dimension in der Region der Eifel und ihrer Umgebung
einzigartig.

The rock formation open here offers an especially spectacular
picture. The shortest way has a length of approx. 1,5km. However,
the romantic Kalltal invites you to a longer walk, on which further
Caches can be lifted.
It concerns with these folded rock formations a so-called geologic
saddle. It consists of approximately 400 million year old
Grauwacke, sandstone and clay strata. Rock from this time forms the
largest part of the basement of the Nordeifel and the whole
Rheinisches Schiefergebirge.
The rock saddle is in the opinion of geologists the best
explanation of the entire Nordeifel. The rock formation is unique
in her dimension in the region of the Eifel and her
surroundings.
Log conditions:
Make a photo of you before the saddle (no sign condition, but I
would be happy about photos) and answer the following
