The drive to this is relative to the seasons. The cache is located in an area you should be able to walk to. The size is small, but you could exchange very small items, if you find the need to.
Having almost a year under the belt GeoCachin' now, we figured it was about time to take some of the things we've (Snyder Bear Team) saw, learned and experienced over the past year, and employ these towards a few cache sites local to us.
You'll find this cache easy compared to a hike up some far away ridge, or into the deep forests of northern Wisconsin. Your biggest threat on this cache would be to avoid fishin mugglers and passerby who could be interested about why you'd want to be where this cache is located. As with most caches located within the Black River State Forest, you will see an abundance of flora and fauna. Don't forget your binoculars and cameras - we have an abundance of Lupine in the area as well that draws a lot of Karner Blue butterflies and butterfly watchers.
I have yet to find a logical reason for why this flowage was named such, but we'll be researching this down the line and possibly adding this to the page (see Pezmon's comment in the notes for 06/22/2009 - thanks Pezmon, that does sound logical...). I do know there were many a logging camps that popped up in the area throughout the historic periods, as well as the area being populated by the farming community through the early part of this last century, so... Be that as it may, this area has now been restored to more of a natural wetland type region and today it's become part of the State Forest for all of us to enjoy.
One thing to remember - you stand the chance of running into an abundance of mosquito. So take stock in your favorite insect repellent and have fun visiting our neck of the woods…
The Geocache Notification Form has been submitted to Peter Bakken, BRF SF Superintendent. Geocaches placed within the Black River State Forest requires permission by means of a notification form. We would like to thank the State of Wisconsin for allowing us to place the Town Line Flowage cache so all can enjoy the area as we have.
