This cache was placed in memory of my beloved 6 year old Geo-Hound
Rocco who succumbed to canine lymphoma after a short bitter battle
2 weeks ago.
Rocco and I walked dozens and dozens of miles through this
preserve, sometimes with Jim, and sometimes just the two of us. He
enjoyed romping through these forests and fields in pursuit of
whatever happened to be on the trail. From breaking up a pack of
hogs, to chasing deer, to running rabbits, he was always game for a
stroll here.
Rocco's ashes were laid to rest a hundred feet or so south of
the final cache, and are marked with my first walking stick that I
accquired 13 years ago.
He was a great hiking companion, and will be missed greatly.
Tree coverage may definitely have adverse effects on your GPS
readings, so you may have to rely on your geo-senses once you get
close to ground zero.
FTF prize is an unactivated FGA coin graciously provided by a
friend of Rocco and myself - Jimear1e.
This is wild Florida, and you'll need to utilize due caution as
always.
Enjoy yourself and have fun on the trails in this preserve.
Congrats on FTF to FSUDad,Henry - Pilot not Poet,
TeamTwoTrack,JerseyGirl & Bruno,and pin 2 win . Well done!
Edit to add...As you take a break and listen to the breeze
through the pines and palmettos....JimEarle and I had a
conversation here whilst placing stage 1 of this cache. We didn't
know at that time what was coming for him and he casually said this
is where he would like to rest eternally, so he might actually be
approx 100' east of the stage. I {quite possibly} carried him there
and placed him where he wanted to be. Mission accomplished. Please
respect this cache, my two best friends were {probably}laid to rest
here, and I consider it sacred ground.
