The property is a 283-acre conservation area with scenic trails
crossing a varied New England countryside habitat. It includes
mixed woodland, bridged streams, marshes, and small ponds with all
the expected critters. The area's eastern trail head parking is at
the end of Valley Road in Hampstead and is marked by our
Cole Glee Box and the Three Fears – Too
Small (GC1D8BV), for both this hide and several others in the
area. This cache is one of four we placed here as part of our
Cole Glee Box and the Three Fears Series.
Our Caching Epiphany
Have you ever had a caching epiphany? For some, it may have
happened on a numbers run of easy micros that seemed to line up
endlessly into the horizon with nary a DNF and possibly a few FTFs
along the way. Others might prefer a special micro that blends into
its environment showing off all the inspiration and perspiration
its hider put into placing it. For others, it's a well polished
crafty puzzle that spins a good yarn of drama, comedy, or history
as it exercises the mind. Still others are enthralled by the allure
of the treasure box with its plunder of trinkets, travelers, coins,
and captain's log of passengers, cargo, and ports of call.
For us, it's a good hike along a scenic looping trail. It might
include some adventure, like a wobbly boulder stream crossing or
maybe a short bushwhack. We enjoy finding varied cache styles along
the route that show off special spots of interest to the hider.
This might include a history lesson, some culture, or a nice view.
We like a well sealed container with enough capacity to hold a
reflection of the humanity of visitors that came before us in the
form of logs, travelers, and trinkets. We're talking bonus points
for a hide with a perch overlooking that special spot for log
writing, refueling, and contemplating.
Some may prefer their finds smaller/larger, easier/harder,
quicker/longer, or more simple/clever. As for us, we found this
spot, along with all the hides in Cole Marsh, Just
Right!
