A scenic overlook on a lake of significant meaning to my
childhood.
This cache will take you on a hike of about 1.2 miles round trip
on a section of the North Country Trail. The entrance to the
camping area are listed below. You should be able to find a parking
spot nearby.
As a child I would spend at least one week a summer on this lake
fishing with my Grandfather. This gave me my love of fishing and
all things outdoors. He passed away about 10 years ago.
"False Echo's" is a song of Jimmy Buffett's that he wrote as a
tribute to his father who had the same affliction as my
Grandfather. Maybe some of these lyrics can help explain what it is
like seeing a loved one sunddenly become lost within their own
mind.
Enduring echoes call out from his past
Time aint for savin no times not for that
Chasing false echoes like a lost legionnaire
He waltzes on memories while he fades like a flare
Well now life throws us curve balls we never can reach
He gave up the ocean but he lived by the beach
Where he raised up his family taught us all to survive
Then the wind went away in 1995
When I placed the cache I sat and reflected upon my life because
of his part in it. The final location is a great overlook to sit
back and reflect. The morning after placing this cache I took a
sunrise paddle around the lake to witness 5 adult Loons and 2
chicks all putting on a magnificent display of what loons do. If
you are ambitious you may take a boat to this cache just be careful
of the shoreline as it is not a good spot to land the
boat.
There will be some bushwhacking to get to the cache from the trail.
Bring bug spray as they took about a quart from me while letting
the GPS average out. Most of the hike will be on the trail but the
"Turn Off" coords will be a good place to start bushwhacking.
