Geocache Description:

The cache is a "nano" type cache containing only a log. Buswhacking is not necessary in order to reach this cache

Prior to the creation of False Cape State Park, a number of hunting lodges and shooting clubs existed on what is now park property. One prominent waterfowl sport and shooting club was the Barbour Hill Club. This club was owned and used by three generations of the Barbour family from 1892 to 1966. At one time the club even had its own runway for members and guests who wished to fly in to use the clubhouse which was located in what is still known as the Barbour Hill portion of the park. This cache is located close to a park roadway that used to be that runway.

False Cape State Park in the southeast corner of Virginia is an isolated six mile long and one mile wide barrier spit between the Back Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. It is part of what is often referred to as "Virginia's Outer Banks"

Access to False Cape State Park is obtained by hiking or bicycling through the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge or by boating across the Back Bay. Parking is available at the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge visitor center (3.3 miles from the False Cape State Park entrance) or at the Little Island City Park (a Virginia Beach City Park 5.1 miles from the False Cape State Park entrance), Fees and access hours for these parking areas vary with the seasons.
