Recomended parking is at the Pacific Crest Trailhead near Donner
Summit. Exit interstate 80 at Boreal Ridge and go east on the south
frontage road to the provided waypoint.
The way I approached the cache is to leave the PCT at the
waypoint N39 20.238, W 120 19.949, turn up hill to the south east
on the trail to Azalea and Flora Lakes. I then bushwhack from there
- you can follow my trail or find your own trail
. I took a 9, 11 and a 14 year old
on the hike so it is somewhat kid friendly - other than
dealing with the complains about no trail to follow!
This was going to be cache in a planned long-term series but
that got changed. This is an easy-to-find cache after you get there
however you will need to work on your routing, navigation and
hiking skills. Look at the terrain in the area before you leave - I
would not approach it directly from the east - you have been
warned! Enjoy the hike.
Don’t forget to purchase a
Sno-Park Permit from November through May.
