Bedson Park, built in the 1960's was literally GPS Grampa's
back
yard while growing up. His mom still lives in the same home
(since
1966) which looks onto the park.
When the homes were being built, before the park area was
developed, the area was about 3' or 4' lower than surrounding
yards, and in spring, was a 2 acre lake. Scrap lumber and
nails
were assembled into rafts, and floated better using empty
paint
cans with their lids replaced. Good times, until you slipped
off,
cursing aloud "AAAWWWWW S#%&, I GOT A BOOTER".
GPS Grampa also has many fond memories of kite flying,
playing
catch with his dad, flying model airplanes (crashing one into
his
dad's head), and the many hockey baseball and football games
played
here. Look to the west end of the park, and you'll notice 2
evergreens in a row are smaller than the others. These were
from
GPS Grampa being tackled into them during 2 consecutive plays
in
one particularly tough game (we always played tackle). Long
story
short, left knee torn cartilage, OUCH (see pic).
The widow of the "crazy old man" still lives here in the
last
house facing north at the west end of the park. You know the
type,
he kept every ball, kite and frisbee that ever landed in his
yard
(rumour was, he paid for his house, cars and retirement by
selling
them).
We thought the first cache placed by GPS Gramma should be
kid
friendly, thus the park placement and childhood memories. The
neighbourhood has gone through 2 or 3 changes of families
growing
up, then away, so there's no telling how many or when muggles
will
be present.
Cache includes one of GPS Grampa's custom made FTF, with a
Tim's
card to have some tea on Gramma. The people on the FTF are my
Mother-in-Law (Grampa'a mom), and my youngest granddaughter.
